Navi Mumbai, Sep 4: A 30-year-old private school bus driver has been arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a three-year-old girl in Navi Mumbai’s Kamothe area, police said on Friday.
According to police, the accused was driving a private bus transporting students from a local kindergarten and primary school.
The incident reportedly occurred around 12.30 pm on Wednesday while the driver was dropping children at their homes. After the other students had got off the bus, the three-year-old girl was allegedly left alone with the driver, who then sexually assaulted her.
After reaching home, the child complained of abdominal pain and informed her grandmother about the alleged abuse. The family subsequently alerted the school management and approached the police.
A case was registered under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita concerning rape of a child below 12 years of age, along with provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
The accused was arrested and produced before a Panvel court on Thursday. The court remanded him in police custody until Saturday, police said.
