Kundapur, Aug 22: Four fishermen who were stranded in the middle of the sea after their fishing boat developed engine trouble were rescued by fishermen aboard a deep-sea fishing boat on late evening on Friday.

The rescued fishermen have been identified as Raghavendra, Faizan, Nagendra and Dhanu, all from Murudeshwar.

The Mahankali Prasad fishing boat, which had been purchased at Malpe by a fisherman from Murudeshwar, left Malpe harbour for Murudeshwar on Thursday evening. However, both engines of the boat broke down, leaving it stranded in the middle of the sea and subsequently reported missing.

The fishermen aboard the boat were helpless as there was no network connectivity, preventing them from informing other fishermen about their situation. The mobile phones of the fishermen on board had also been switched off.

Another boat that had departed along with the Mahankali Prasad reached Murudeshwar, but when the Mahankali Prasad did not arrive, people were informed that the boat was missing. Several fishermen operating boats in the vicinity searched for the missing vessel but could not locate it.

Meanwhile, fishermen aboard the Mahaveer deep-sea fishing boat, which was returning to Gangolli after completing deep-sea fishing operations, spotted the stranded boat. They rescued the four fishermen who were drifting in the sea aboard the vessel and successfully towed the boat to Gangolli harbour.
