Toronto, Aug 11: Former world No. 1 Iga Swiatek stormed into the semifinals of the Canadian Open 2026 with a dominant 6-2, 6-1 victory over Russia’s Diana Shnaider in just 64 minutes.

The 25-year-old, a six-time Grand Slam champion, will face Ukraine’s ninth seed Elina Svitolina in the last four. Svitolina booked her semifinal spot with a 3-6, 6-0, 6-3 comeback victory over Ekaterina Alexandrova.

Swiatek is featuring in only her second WTA semifinal of the year and is chasing her first final appearance since winning the Korea Open in Seoul nearly a year ago.

She holds a 4-3 winning record against Svitolina in their career meetings. However, the Ukrainian has won both of their encounters this year, setting up another challenging contest in Toronto.
