Kundapur, Aug 7: A case has been registered against the chief writer of the NRLM Samruddha Sanjeevini Gram Panchayat Level Federation at Bidkalkatte in Hardalli-Mandalli gram panchayat limits of Tekkatte for allegedly misappropriating Rs 33.50 lac through financial irregularities.
The accused has been identified as Ashwini (33), who has been serving as the chief writer of the federation. She has been accused of forging the signatures and seals of the federation's president, secretary and treasurer, as well as forging the signatures of members of various self-help groups, to allegedly misappropriate around Rs 33.50 lac and cheat the federation. Based on the complaint, a case has been registered against her at the Kota police station.
According to the complaint, Ashwini has been working as the chief writer of the Samruddhi Sanjeevini Hardalli-Mandalli Gram Panchayat Level Federation since 2022. The federation consists of 54 self-help groups, and since 2022, it has received a total of Rs 52.50 lac from the government.
The funds are maintained through the Canara Bank, Bidkalkatte branch, and are meant to be distributed by the federation to various self-help groups based on their requirements. The responsibility of disbursing these funds rests with the chief writer.
However, it has been alleged that instead of distributing the government funds to the respective self-help groups, Ashwini misappropriated the money. She allegedly forged the signatures and seals of the federation's president, secretary and treasurer and also forged the signatures of members of various self-help groups to withdraw funds in the name of Mandara Self-Help Group, of which she is the president, and in the names of members of several other groups.
The complaint alleges that she fraudulently misappropriated Rs 33.50 lakh in this manner, thereby cheating the federation.
The alleged fraud came to light after the president of the Samruddha Sanjeevini Gram Panchayat Level Federation noticed that she had not been receiving SMS alerts from the bank regarding financial transactions for several days.
Upon enquiring at the Canara Bank, Bidkalkatte branch, it was discovered that transaction alerts relating to the federation's account were being sent to the mobile number of the chief writer's mother.
The matter was then brought to the notice of the concerned authorities. During an audit and verification of the federation's accounts, the alleged financial irregularities were uncovered.
