Mangaluru/Udupi, Aug 3: With heavy rainfall continuing across Dakshina Kannada (DK) and Udupi districts and more showers forecast over the next few days, the district administrations have declared a holiday for educational institutions on Tuesday, August 4, as a precautionary measure.

In Dakshina Kannada, the decision was taken based on weather forecasts issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) and the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC), Bengaluru, which indicated that the prevailing weather conditions are likely to persist.

In the Mangaluru sub-division, covering Mangaluru, Bantwal, Moodbidri, Mulki and Ullal taluks, a holiday has been declared for all anganwadi centres and government, aided and private primary and high schools up to class 10, including all residential schools.

In the Puttur sub-division, comprising Puttur, Beltangady, Sullia and Kadaba taluks, the holiday has been extended to all anganwadi centres, government, aided and private primary and high schools, pre-university colleges and educational institutions up to class 12, including all residential schools and colleges.

Meanwhile, the Udupi district administration has also declared a holiday for all anganwadi centres, primary and high schools in view of the rain alert issued by the IMD. However, no holiday has been announced for PU colleges, diploma institutions, ITIs, degree, postgraduate and engineering colleges.
