Glasgow, Jul 26: India added another medal to its tally at the Commonwealth Games 2026 as weightlifter Rishikanta Singh Chanambam secured the silver medal in the men's 60kg category after an impressive performance that included a new Commonwealth Games record in the snatch.
Rishikanta finished with a combined lift of 264kg, placing second behind Malaysia's Bin Kasdan Mohamad Aniq, while Kenya's Joshua Amunga Mboya claimed the bronze medal with a total of 260kg.
The Indian lifter began strongly in the snatch event, successfully clearing 116kg and 119kg before lifting 121kg on his final attempt. The effort not only put him at the top of the standings after the snatch but also established a new Commonwealth Games record in the discipline.

Entering the clean and jerk with momentum on his side, Rishikanta comfortably lifted 143kg on his opening attempt, keeping himself in contention for the gold medal.
He then attempted 148kg on his second lift but failed to complete it, allowing Malaysian rival Aniq to move ahead with a successful 149kg effort.
Needing a massive lift to reclaim the lead, Rishikanta called for 151kg on his final attempt. Although he managed to clean the weight onto his shoulders, he was unable to complete the jerk, ending his campaign with a total of 264kg.
Aniq, who had already secured the title, capped off his campaign by successfully lifting 152kg in the clean and jerk. His combined total of 273kg not only earned him the gold medal but also established a new overall Commonwealth Games record in the category.
Despite narrowly missing out on gold, Rishikanta's silver medal and record-breaking snatch performance gave India a strong start to Day 4 of the competition, adding another podium finish to the country's medal haul in Glasgow.
