Kundapur police arrest absconding seven-case accused in Bhatkal after six-month hunt

Kundapur, Jul 16: An absconding accused wanted in seven criminal cases was arrested by the Kundapur Rural police during an early morning operation in Bhatkal on Thursday, July 16.

The accused has been identified as Prasad (22), a resident of Karki Gudde in Hattiangady village of Kundapur taluk.

According to the police, Prasad is facing seven criminal cases — four registered at Kundapur Rural police station, two at Kundapur Town police station and one at Manipal police station. The cases include charges of attempted murder, theft and offences under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

The Additional District and Sessions Court, Kundapur, had issued non-bailable warrants against him.

Police said another case had also been registered against him at Kundapur Rural Police Station in February 2026. He had allegedly been absconding for the past six months.

Acting on credible information that Prasad was hiding in Bhatkal, a police team, under the guidance of circle inspector Santosh A Kaikini, conducted a raid in the early hours of July 16. The operation was led by sub-inspector (law and order) Niranjan Gowda and sub-inspector (investigation) Chandrakala M Pattar, assisted by Police Constables Shridhar Patil and Kiran B Patil.

The team successfully apprehended the accused and produced him before the Additional District and Sessions Court, Kundapur, which remanded him to judicial custody.
