Gaza, Jul 7: Hamas has announced the dissolution of its civilian governing body in the Gaza Strip, ending nearly two decades of direct administration and paving the way for a technocratic committee to assume civilian governance as part of a broader post-war transition.
The announcement includes the resignation of senior government officials and the dissolution of the government's emergency committee, marking a significant political shift since Hamas took control of Gaza in 2007.
Hamas said the move is intended to facilitate the transfer of civilian administrative responsibilities to the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza, a technocratic body headed by Ali Shaath. The committee has said it is prepared to assume its duties once the necessary conditions and resources are in place.

However, the transfer of power has not yet been implemented on the ground, and Hamas has not agreed to disarm, a key demand of Israel and international mediators. Israeli officials dismissed the announcement as insufficient, arguing that any meaningful transition requires Hamas to relinquish its military control as well.
The development comes amid ongoing efforts to advance a post-war governance and reconstruction framework for Gaza, while negotiations over security arrangements and the territory's future administration continue.
