Mangaluru-origin student dies under suspicious circumstances in Germany

Mangaluru, Jul 6: A 21-year-old student from Marakada in Kunjathbail, Mangaluru, who was pursuing a BBA degree in Germany, died under suspicious circumstances after allegedly drowning in Leipzig on Thursday. 

The deceased has been identified as Mohammed Aneesh Abubakar (21). Following suspicion surrounding the incident, German police have detained four students, including two Indians, for questioning.  

Aneesh was a third-semester BBA student at the Rahn Education Institution in Halle, Germany. He had moved to Germany about one-and-a-half years ago after completing his pre-university education in Mangaluru. His father, Marakada Abubakar Siddique, is employed in Saudi Arabia. 

According to reports, Aneesh had gone on a trekking trip with his classmates and friends on Thursday morning. His body was later found in the water near the Red Bull Arena recreational waterfront area in Leipzig on Thursday afternoon. 

Efforts are underway to bring Aneesh's mortal remains back to Mangaluru. Advocate P A Hameed Padubidri is in touch with the Indian Embassy in Berlin to facilitate the repatriation of the body.
