New Delhi, Jul 3: The Delhi government has taken note of viral social media videos claiming that e-rickshaws in the national capital can be remotely switched off using a Chinese mobile application, with Transport Minister Pankaj Singh saying the matter is under examination and police are likely to take action if any illegality is found.
The videos, which have sparked concerns over the security of electric vehicles and possible misuse of digital technology, are yet to be officially verified. However, the government acknowledged the issue and said it is reviewing the allegations.
"We are aware of the matter on social media and the government is looking into it. I believe police will also take action on their own about this, as it is illegal to do so," Singh told.

The controversy comes amid growing discussions on whether external applications can interfere with the functioning of electric vehicles and whether stronger cybersecurity safeguards are required.
Meanwhile, Singh highlighted the objectives of the recently notified Delhi Electric Vehicle Policy 2026, saying the government is committed to accelerating EV adoption through incentives and improved infrastructure.
He said electric cars are becoming more affordable and increased market competition is expected to further reduce prices. Under the new policy, eligible buyers can receive a scrapping incentive of up to Rs 1 lakh if they purchase a new electric vehicle within six months of scrapping an old one at an authorised facility.
The minister also assured residents that charging infrastructure would not pose a challenge, stating that around 32,000 charging points would be installed across Delhi over the next four years.
In addition, all electric cars with an ex-showroom price of up to Rs 30 lakh registered in Delhi will be exempt from road tax and registration fees under the policy, a move aimed at promoting cleaner mobility and reducing vehicular emissions.
