Lucknow, Jul 2: Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav on Thursday strongly condemned the alleged egg attack on Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Mahua Moitra in West Bengal, accusing the BJP of fostering a climate of political violence.
Calling the incident "highly condemnable", Yadav urged the Lok Sabha Speaker and the judiciary to take immediate cognisance of the matter.
Moitra alleged that BJP workers hurled eggs at her during a visit to Nadia district on Wednesday, where she had gone to attend a party meeting at the residence of TMC MLA Alifa Ahmed in Palashi, Kaliganj.

In a post on X, Yadav accused the BJP of misusing power in states under its rule and claimed that, particularly in West Bengal, it was creating a "poisonous atmosphere of political violence" while politicising the police machinery.
"The people of the country are deeply angry and disturbed by such aggressive political behaviour," he said.
The SP chief further claimed that even BJP workers were uneasy over such incidents, fearing similar treatment in states where the party is not in power or if it loses power in future.
"BJP's senior leaders may remain protected by security cover, but ordinary workers will ultimately have to face the public," he remarked.
According to Moitra, a group of protesters gathered outside the venue of the TMC meeting, shouting slogans such as "Go back" and "chor" before allegedly pelting eggs at her.
The Krishnanagar MP alleged that the protesters were BJP workers and accused the police of remaining mute spectators during the incident. She also claimed that the BJP was attempting to intimidate her through such attacks.
The BJP has not issued an immediate response to the allegations.
