Mangaluru: MCC Bank marks 114 years of service with inauguration of 22nd branch at Deralakatte

Mangaluru, Jun 28: Marking 114 years of dedicated service since its establishment in 1912, MCC Bank Ltd inaugurated its 22nd branch and a new ATM at Deralakatte on Sunday, June 28. The new branch is located on the ground floor of the Fr Muller Complex, Deralakatte.

The new branch was inaugurated by Sahakara Ratna Anil Lobo, chairman of MCC Bank Ltd. The ATM was inaugurated and operated by Fr Nilesh Crasta, administrator of Father Muller Homoeopathic College, Deralakatte. Sr Milli Fernandes, superior general of the Ursuline Franciscan Sisters, inaugurated the safe room, while Fr Nelson Deeraj Pais, administrator of Father Muller Homoeopathic Pharmaceutical Division (FMHPD), launched the Bank's e-stamp facility. Fr Victor D'Mello, parish priest of Our Lady of Mercy Church, Panir, blessed the new branch.

The programme was presided over by chairman Anil Lobo. Sr Milli Fernandes attended as the chief guest. Guests of honour included Fr Nilesh Crasta and Divya Sathish Shetty, president of Kotekar Grama Panchayat. Vice chairman Jerald Jude D'Silva and general manager Sunil Menezes were also present on the dais.

In his presidential address, chairman Anil Lobo reaffirmed MCC Bank's commitment to cooperative banking and customer service. Expressing gratitude to the people of Deralakatte for their warm welcome, he said their confidence and support would contribute significantly to the success of the new branch.

He highlighted that MCC Bank has built strong goodwill by prioritising customer needs while operating strictly under RBI guidelines. He also stated that all eligible deposits are insured through the Deposit Insurance and Credit Guarantee Corporation (DICGC), assuring customers of the safety of their deposits.

Speaking about the Bank's recent progress, he stated that under the current leadership, five new branches have been opened, with each achieving a business turnover of Rs 10 crore within its first year. He attributed this achievement to the dedication of the staff and the trust reposed by customers.

Lobo further said the Bank is planning additional expansion and emphasised that prudent financial management and continuous monitoring of key financial indicators have enabled MCC Bank to safeguard public funds while securing regulatory approvals for growth.

Referring to Deralakatte's strategic importance, he observed that the presence of reputed educational institutions, hospitals, and IT companies reflects the area's immense growth potential. He appealed to residents to extend their continued support to the Bank in its mission of delivering quality financial services while contributing to the region's development.

Addressing the gathering, Fr Victor D'Mello described the inauguration on a Sunday as a blessed occasion for the Christian community. He prayed for the Bank's continued growth and prosperity and attributed its success to the trust and confidence of the people. He urged the Bank's staff to treat every customer with dignity and respect, irrespective of appearance or social status. "Serving people is serving God," he remarked, encouraging employees to serve with sincerity and compassion. He also expressed hope that MCC Bank would promote communal harmony by providing inclusive banking services to all sections of society.

Chief guest Sr Milli Fernandes said the opening of the Deralakatte branch marked another proud milestone in the Bank's journey of growth. She observed that MCC Bank has earned public trust by mobilising deposits and extending loans that support individuals, families, and businesses, thereby strengthening the local economy. She noted that the Bank's savings schemes help families achieve financial independence and security and wished the new branch continued success in serving the people of Deralakatte. She also invoked blessings on the management, staff, customers, and stakeholders.

Congratulating MCC Bank, Fr Nilesh Crasta said both Father Muller Charitable Institutions, with a 146-year legacy, and MCC Bank, with a 114-year legacy, were founded on the principles of service, trust, and humanity. He stressed the importance of holistic development encompassing physical, mental, emotional, social, economic, and spiritual well-being. Describing banking as an essential pillar of personal and community development, he expressed confidence that MCC Bank would contribute significantly to the economic progress of Deralakatte.

"Banking enables people to meet their broader financial needs. May MCC Bank guide the people of Deralakatte in planning their finances. May both institutions continue to grow in trust and serve with the same commitment," he said.

Divya Sathish Shetty congratulated the chairman, management, and staff on the inauguration of the new branch. She wished the Bank continued expansion across Mangaluru and surrounding regions and appealed to residents to support the institution for its sustained growth and prosperity. She also appreciated the Bank's initiative to recognize local achievers.

As a part of community engagement, MCC Bank honoured academic achievers of the region and honoured Franky Francis Cutinha, Alwyn Jerome D'Souza, Fayaz Madoor, CA Maxim Fernandes, Uggappa Poojary, and Shafi Babbukatte for their accomplishments in various fields.

The Bank also distributed financial assistance, including Rs 1,00,000 to the Ursuline Sisters' Special School for Differently Abled Children, Rs 25,000 towards the education of Princita D'Souza, Rs 50,000 to Mercy Care Charitable Trust represented by CA Maxim Fernandes, and Rs 1,00,000 to Olavinahalli Ashram.

Engineer Karthik Kiran, who was associated with the interior of the new branch infrastructure, was felicitated.

Mementoes were presented to the chief guest and guests of honour as tokens of appreciation.

Vice chairman Jerald Jude D'Silva, directors Andrew D'Souza, David D'Souza, Melwyn Vas, J P Rodrigues, Anil Patrao, Elroy Kiran Crasto, Irene Rebello, Vincent Lasrado, Felix D'Cruz, Alwyn P Monteiro, professional directors C G Pinto and Sushanth Saldanha were present on the occasion.

Roshan D'Souza, director, welcomed the gathering, while Shainy Veebha D'Souza compered the programme.

The event featured the Bank Anthem, a prayer song by staff members, and a documentary highlighting MCC Bank's history and achievements.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Juliet D'Souza, branch manager of the newly inaugurated Deralakatte branch.
