Mangaluru, Jun 26: In a significant honour for St Aloysius University, the government of India has conferred the honorary rank of colonel and appointed the university's vice chancellor (VC), Dr Praveen Martis SJ, as colonel commandant in the National Cadet Corps (NCC).
The prestigious national recognition has been notified in the Official Gazette of India dated May 2, 2026. Dr Praveen Martis will hold the honorary rank for the duration of his tenure as vice chancellor.



The conferment marks a historic milestone for the university and reflects the leadership of the vice chancellor. It also highlights the institution's continued commitment to promoting discipline, civic responsibility, and youth leadership through the NCC.
The formal piping ceremony is scheduled to be held in July 2026 and will be officiated by senior officials of the Indian Armed Forces and the National Cadet Corps.
