Udupi: Man arrested for drunken driving, causing serious crash in Manipal

Udupi, Jun 25: A 25-year-old man has been remanded to judicial custody for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol and causing a road accident on National Highway 169(A) at Eshwar Nagar, Manipal.

According to police, the incident occurred on the night of June 19 at around 10:08 pm. The complainant, Abhishek Nayak (21), a resident of Karvalu in Alevoor village of Udupi taluk, was returning home to Kelaparkala on his scooter (KA-20-HE-5260) after work in Manipal.

When he reached the U-turn near Sai Sagar Hotel on NH-169(A), a car bearing registration number KA-19-ME-8833, driven by Samegdh L J (25), a resident of Mudaru, Karkala, allegedly approached from the MIT side at high speed and in a negligent manner. Police stated that the driver was under the influence of alcohol and crashed into Abhishek's scooter.

The collision damaged both vehicles and left Abhishek seriously injured. A case was registered at Manipal police station, and an investigation was taken up.

The accused was arrested on June 22 and produced before the court. The court subsequently remanded him to judicial custody.

    Sad that the drunken fellow nothing happened but a innocent.Hope he recovers fast and regain health.Police should here and there control such drivers and so can be many accidents can be avoided.
