Panaji, Jun 18: Marking Goa Revolution Day, Goa Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant unveiled an ambitious vision for the state's future, focusing on strengthening higher education, developing a skilled workforce and diversifying the tourism sector to address emerging economic challenges.
After paying tributes to Goa's freedom fighters at Azad Maidan in Panaji along with Governor Pusapati Ashok Gajapathi Raju and Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao, the chief minister said the state was committed to building institutions and opportunities that would serve future generations.
Sawant noted that Goa has already implemented the National Education Policy and is now concentrating on creating educational infrastructure capable of meeting the state's long-term requirements.
As part of this initiative, he announced the establishment of five new colleges dedicated to emerging fields, including law, forensic science, skill-based education, digital learning and experiential studies. He said the move aims to equip students with industry-relevant skills and prepare them for a rapidly changing economic landscape.
Highlighting the growing importance of tourism to Goa's economy, Sawant stressed the need for a trained and skilled workforce to ensure sustainable growth in the sector. He said the government is working to expand tourism beyond its traditional beach-based model by promoting heritage, spiritual, eco, wellness and hinterland tourism.
According to the chief minister, the diversification strategy is expected to create wider opportunities for local communities, entrepreneurs and businesses while reducing pressure on conventional tourist destinations.
Sawant also announced that the Patradevi Martyrs' Memorial has been completed and will be inaugurated shortly. The memorial has been built to honour the sacrifices of those who laid down their lives during Goa's liberation struggle and to preserve their legacy for future generations.
Emphasising the state's long-term development goals, the chief minister said Goa's strategy is centred on balancing economic growth with quality education, employment generation, cultural preservation and sustainable tourism.
He added that the government remains committed to preparing Goa for future challenges while continuing to honour the sacrifices of the freedom fighters who played a crucial role in securing the state's liberation.
