Mapusa, Jun 15: A 29-year-old tourist police constable died after sustaining critical injuries in a road accident involving a car and a scooter at Saunta Vaddo in Calangute during the early hours of Saturday, police said.

The deceased has been identified as Ketan Gaude, a resident of Cumbarjua, who was attached to the Tourist Police Unit.

According to police officials, Gaude was returning home after completing his duty when the accident took place on the Baga-Calangute road.

Preliminary investigations suggest that a car, allegedly driven by a tourist, collided head-on with the constable's scooter near Saunta Vaddo.

The impact of the crash threw Gaude off his two-wheeler, leaving him with severe injuries.

He was immediately taken to the North Goa District Hospital in Mapusa for emergency treatment. However, due to the critical nature of his condition, doctors later referred him to the Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC) in Bambolim.

Despite efforts by medical teams, Gaude succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment.

Police have registered a case and launched an investigation to determine the exact circumstances that led to the fatal collision.

Officials said the driver of the car is currently being questioned, and further legal action will be taken based on the outcome of the investigation.

Authorities are also examining all available evidence, including witness statements and other relevant details, to establish responsibility for the accident.

Further investigation is underway.
