Saharanpur (Uttar Pradesh), Jun 13: Security agencies have launched a wide-ranging investigation after a young man from Nanauta in Saharanpur district was taken into custody during a coordinated operation involving multiple intelligence and law-enforcement units over suspected terror-related links.

The operation was jointly carried out by personnel from the Madhya Pradesh Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), Uttar Pradesh ATS, Meerut Special Task Force (STF), and the Intelligence Bureau (IB). During the action, officials detained Naeem Abdullah and shifted him to a secure location for questioning.

Sources said Abdullah had been under the radar of investigators for some time owing to alleged overseas connections and suspicious online activities. Following his detention, agencies began an intensive interrogation to ascertain the nature of his contacts and determine whether any security concerns existed.

Investigators also seized his mobile phone and other electronic gadgets during the operation. The devices have been sent for forensic analysis, with specialists examining digital records, communications, and online activity that could assist the ongoing probe.

Officials indicated that Abdullah is also being questioned in relation to an investigation being conducted in Madhya Pradesh. However, authorities have so far refrained from disclosing specific details about the case.

The operation was executed under strict secrecy, but the arrival of teams from several security agencies quickly attracted public attention. Residents gathered near the site as officials carried out the proceedings, while security personnel restricted video recording and maintained a secure perimeter to prevent disruptions.

Authorities said the investigation remains at a crucial stage, with multiple agencies examining all available evidence before reaching any conclusions. A formal statement is expected only after the verification of facts and completion of key investigative procedures.

The development comes on the same day that the Madhya Pradesh ATS arrested a 35-year-old man from Bhopal in a separate terror-related investigation.

The accused, identified as Mohd Faraz, was apprehended near Nanhe Bee's mosque in the Qazi Camp locality of Old Bhopal during a confidential operation. According to reports, the arrest was carried out with exceptional secrecy, with local police units reportedly receiving little or no prior information about the action.

Investigators allege that Faraz had become increasingly influenced by extremist ideology and was regularly accessing radical material allegedly circulated from abroad. During the investigation, officials reportedly recovered a PDF document containing suspected extremist literature from his mobile phone, which is now being examined as part of the case.

The ATS is investigating whether Faraz was operating independently or had links to a broader network. Agencies are also probing claims that he intended to travel to Afghanistan for specialised training. Additionally, reports suggest he had been undertaking martial arts training, a factor investigators are examining while assessing the extent of any potential threat.

Both investigations remain ongoing, with security agencies working to determine whether the cases are isolated incidents or part of a larger pattern of extremist activity.
