Los Angeles, Aug 5: A 38-year-old man was arrested near the Trump National Golf Course in Rancho Palos Verdes, California, after authorities found weapons and ammunition in his possession days before US President Donald Trump's scheduled visit to the venue.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department identified the accused as Jeanine John Taele, a resident of Downey. He was arrested on Sunday after plainclothes federal agents alerted deputies about a suspicious individual at the golf course.

According to the sheriff's department, Taele was seen walking around the golf course taking photographs and videos while appearing to monitor security planning activities.

Deputies who questioned him also learned that he was under investigation in connection with a robbery case in El Segundo. During a search of his vehicle in the golf club parking lot, officers recovered a loaded pistol. A loaded magazine containing hollow-point bullets was also found in his pants pocket.

Taele was arrested on suspicion of carrying a concealed firearm and possessing prohibited ammunition.

A subsequent search of his residence on Monday led to the recovery of an illegally modified AR-platform rifle, a .45-calibre pistol, body armour, high-capacity magazines and additional ammunition.

Investigators also seized multiple notebooks containing what authorities described as concerning statements, along with two radio signal devices.

The arrest came two days before Trump was scheduled to visit Los Angeles for a fundraiser at the golf resort. The sheriff's department said it had not identified any direct threat to the President.

Trump arrived at the golf resort by Marine One helicopter on Tuesday evening as scheduled.

Authorities have also charged Taele in connection with the 2025 robbery investigation. According to court records, he faces charges of second-degree robbery, possession of a large-capacity magazine, carrying a concealed firearm in a vehicle and possession of a short-barrelled rifle.

Jail records showed that Taele remained in custody on Tuesday. Court records did not indicate that he had legal representation at the time.

The incident comes less than two years after Ryan Routh was arrested over an assassination attempt targeting Trump at the Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Florida. Routh was convicted in 2025 and sentenced to life imprisonment in February.
