Mangaluru, Jun 10: The Red Cross Unit of Milagres College of Nursing, in collaboration with the Regional Blood Transfusion Centre, Wenlock District Hospital, Mangaluru, organized a World Blood Donor Day programme and blood donation camp on June 10 in the College Auditorium. The programme was conducted under the theme 'One Drop of Humanity: Give blood, save lives.'
The event commenced with a prayer song, invoking God's blessings upon the gathering. This was followed by the welcome address delivered by Jyothi Cutinha, vice principal, who warmly welcomed the dignitaries and participants.
The inaugural ceremony was marked by the watering of a plant, symbolizing life, growth, and the spirit of giving. The inauguration was carried out by the dignitaries on the dais.























A special highlight of the programme was the birthday felicitation of Fr Ivan Michael Rodrigues, correspondent, Milagres Educational Institutions. Dr Diana Lobo, principal, Milagres College of Nursing, introduced and extended her heartfelt birthday wishes to him. The gathering joined in conveying their warm greetings and appreciation for his dedicated leadership, guidance, and continuous support towards the institution and its activities.
The chief guest, Dr Sharath Kumar Rao, head of the department of Transfusion Medicine, Regional Blood Transfusion Centre, Wenlock District Hospital, Mangalore, addressed the gathering and emphasized the importance of voluntary blood donation. He highlighted the constant need for safe blood, dispelled common myths associated with blood donation, and encouraged students to become regular voluntary blood donors.
Fr Dr Alwyn Serrao, campus director, addressed the audience and emphasized that blood donation is a noble act of service that reflects compassion and social responsibility. He motivated the students to contribute to society through humanitarian activities and appreciated the efforts of the Red Cross Unit.
In his presidential address, Fr Ivan Michael Rodrigues, correspondent, encouraged the students to uphold the values of generosity, kindness, and service to humanity. He appreciated the initiative taken by the Red Cross Unit and urged everyone to actively participate in social welfare activities.
Following the formal programme, the vote of thanks was proposed by Alicia Fronteiro, Red Cross coordinaxtor, who expressed her sincere gratitude to the dignitaries, organizers, participants, and all those who contributed to the success of the programme.
The programme concluded with the college anthem, fostering a sense of unity and pride among the participants. The programme was compered by Vaishnavi, first year BSc Nursing student, who gracefully guided the proceedings. The blood donation camp witnessed enthusiastic participation from students and staff, with 28 donors voluntarily donating blood.
The programme was a meaningful and successful initiative that inspired students and staff to contribute towards saving lives through voluntary blood donation while promoting the values of humanity, compassion, and social responsibility.
