Udupi: Awareness drive against substance abuse organised at SMVITM

Media Release

Udupi, Jun 8: To mark World No Tobacco Day and create awareness ahead of World Anti-Drug Abuse Day, the NSS-YRC Unit, in association with the counselling cell and anti-drug committee of SMVITM, organized an awareness programme titled ‘Break the Chain: Say no to substance abuse’ on June 5, at SMVITM.

The resource person, Manjunath Marbad, police sub-inspector, delivered an informative session on the dangers of substance abuse, its impact on health, academics, family life, and society. He also explained the legal consequences of drug-related offences and shared real-life cases highlighting the link between addiction and crime.

In addition, he addressed cyber safety issues, including online fraud, cyber bullying, identity theft, and safe social media practices. The interactive session concluded with a question-and-answer segment, where students actively participated and clarified their doubts.

The programme successfully enhanced awareness about substance abuse, legal responsibilities, and cyber safety, encouraging students to make informed and responsible life choices.

The programme was coordinated by Dr Deepika B V and Lahari Vaidya and attended by around 80 students, including first-year engineering and Niramaya nursing students.
