Two Israeli soldiers killed in Lebanon clashes, US downs Iranian drones

Daijiworld Media Network - Jerusalem

Jerusalem, Jun 7: Two soldiers of the Israel Defense Forces were killed and four others injured during fighting in southern Lebanon over the weekend, as tensions across the region continued to escalate.

According to Israeli military sources, the soldiers were killed during operations near the Lebanon border, while the wounded personnel were shifted to hospitals for treatment. The circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation.

The latest casualties come amid ongoing hostilities involving the Iran-backed Hezbollah, which has intensified attacks on Israeli forces in recent months despite ceasefire efforts.

Meanwhile, the United States military said it had intercepted and shot down several Iranian drones near the strategically important Strait of Hormuz.

US Central Command stated that the drones posed a potential threat to maritime traffic in the region. American forces also carried out strikes on Iranian coastal radar installations, including sites in Goruk and Qeshm Island, according to reports.

Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps claimed it had launched retaliatory attacks targeting US military bases in Kuwait and Bahrain. However, US officials said most of the missiles were intercepted before reaching their targets.

The developments underscore the fragile security situation in the Middle East, where indirect and direct confrontations between the United States, Iran, Israel and regional armed groups continue to raise concerns of a wider conflict.

Efforts to revive peace negotiations remain stalled, while regional and international mediators continue diplomatic efforts to prevent further escalation.
