Panaji, Jun 5: The southwest monsoon officially entered parts of Goa on Thursday, arriving on its normal onset date and bringing much-needed relief from the prolonged spell of heat and humidity that marked the pre-monsoon season.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the monsoon advanced further into Goa along with additional regions of Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and the southwest Bay of Bengal. The development comes a day after the seasonal rains reached Kerala, signalling the steady northward progress of the monsoon system.

Weather officials said atmospheric conditions remain favourable for the monsoon to expand across the remaining parts of Goa and nearby coastal areas over the next few days.
The IMD has predicted a significant rise in rainfall activity across the state during the coming week as the monsoon strengthens. Residents can expect more frequent showers and cloudy conditions as the rainy season establishes itself over the region.
In view of the expected weather conditions, the department has issued a yellow alert for Goa until June 9. The alert warns of moderate rainfall across many areas, with the possibility of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, gusty winds of 40–50 kmph, and heavy rain at isolated locations.
Meteorologists said that while maximum temperatures are likely to hover between 33°C and 34°C in the short term, the increasing cloud cover and sustained rainfall could gradually bring down daytime temperatures in the coming days.
The arrival of the monsoon is expected to provide relief from soaring temperatures, support agricultural activities, and improve water availability across the state after weeks of hot and humid weather conditions.
