Guwahati, Jun 5: The formation of Assam's new government reached its final stage on Friday as 12 legislators were inducted into the Council of Ministers led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. The swearing-in ceremony was conducted by Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya following the NDA's commanding mandate in the recent Assembly elections.

Held at Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra in Guwahati, the event was attended by Chief Minister Sarma, senior BJP leaders, lawmakers, and top government officials.

The newly sworn-in Cabinet Ministers are Ashwini Ray Sarkar, Ashok Singhal, Bimal Borah, Biswajit Daimary, Jayanta Malla Baruah, Kaushik Rai, Keshab Mahanta, Krishnendu Paul, Nilima Devi, Pijush Hazarika, Ranoj Pegu and Susanta Borgohain.

With their induction, the strength of the state ministry has increased to 17 members, including Chief Minister Sarma and four ministers who had earlier taken oath—Ajanta Neog, Rameswar Teli, Atul Bora and Charan Boro.

The revamped cabinet reflects a balance between experience and new leadership. Several prominent ministers from the previous administration, including Ashok Singhal, Pijush Hazarika, Jayanta Malla Baruah, Ranoj Pegu, Bimal Borah and AGP leader Keshab Mahanta, have retained their positions, underscoring the ruling alliance's confidence in their governance record.

At the same time, the inclusion of Ashwini Ray Sarkar, Biswajit Daimary, Nilima Devi and Susanta Borgohain marks the entry of new faces into the ministry. Daimary, notably, served as Speaker of the Assam Legislative Assembly during the previous term.

The cabinet reshuffle has also resulted in the departure of several ministers from the earlier government, including Chandra Mohan Patowary, Jogen Mohan and Urkhao Gwra Brahma. Meanwhile, former minister Ranjeet Kumar Dass has been entrusted with the responsibility of Speaker of the Assembly.

Political analysts view the cabinet's composition as a strategic move aimed at ensuring policy continuity while broadening representation across different regions and communities. The ministry was finalised weeks after Sarma began his second consecutive tenure as Chief Minister, backed by the NDA's decisive triumph in the 2026 Assam Assembly elections.
