Lucknow, Jun 4: The Uttar Pradesh government has carried out a major administrative reshuffle in the police department, transferring 206 Deputy Superintendents of Police (Deputy SPs) across the state.
The large-scale exercise includes recently promoted officers as well as those who have completed their tenure at previous postings. The move is being seen as a significant administrative step as the state gradually moves towards the next Assembly election cycle.

Several officers have been assigned new responsibilities across districts, commissionerates and specialised security units.
Among the key appointments, Abhishek Singh has been posted as Deputy SP in Balrampur, while Shiv Thakur has been transferred to Saharanpur. Amit Pandey has been appointed Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) in the Kanpur Commissionerate, and Prashant Singh has been posted as ACP in the Varanasi Commissionerate.
Abhishek Yadav has been transferred to Kheri as Deputy SP, while Chitranshu Gautam has been posted in Bahraich. Priyank Jain has been appointed Staff Officer to the Additional Director General (ADG) in Prayagraj.
The reshuffle also includes several important district and security-related postings. Praveen Tiwari has been assigned as DSP in Mathura, while Harsh Modi has been posted as Deputy SP in Unnao. Anjani Rai has been entrusted with the responsibility of Deputy SP for Secretariat Security in Lucknow.
Sumit Tripathi has been posted as DSP in Bhadohi, while Abhay Pratap Mall has been assigned to Balrampur as Deputy SP. Rajeev Dwivedi will serve as Deputy SP in Pratapgarh, and Prabhat Rai has been transferred to Sonbhadra.
In another notable appointment, Vikas Jaiswal has been posted to the Chief Minister’s Security unit. Ajit Singh Chauhan has been transferred as Deputy SP in Chandauli, while Abhishek Pandey has been appointed ACP in the Lucknow Commissionerate.
Officials described the transfers as part of a routine administrative process aimed at ensuring effective deployment of officers across the state. Such exercises are generally undertaken to fill vacancies arising from promotions, balance manpower requirements and enhance administrative efficiency.
However, given the scale of the reshuffle and the reassignment of officers across multiple districts and commissionerates, the move has attracted attention in administrative and political circles. Large-scale police transfers are often viewed as an important measure to strengthen law and order management and improve governance at the district level.
