Bantwal, June 1: In a shocking incident, a 23-year-old youth allegedly murdered his uncle by stabbing him in the neck with a beer bottle at Kadabettu in Pilatabettu village of Bantwal taluk on Sunday night.

The deceased has been identified as Madhusudhan (38), a resident of Kadabettu. The accused is his nephew, Rahul (23), son of Madhusudhan's elder brother Keshava Poojary.

According to the details of the incident, a 'Tambila' ritual for the Daiva was organized at Keshava Poojary's residence on Sunday night. While the religious programme was underway, Rahul and his associates were reportedly drinking and creating a ruckus outside the house. When Madhusudhan objected to their disorderly conduct, an enraged Rahul stabbed his uncle in the neck with a beer bottle and immediately fled the scene.

A severely injured Madhusudhan was rushed to the hospital, but he had already breathed his last before reaching the medical facility.

The deceased was unmarried and worked as an electrician, while the accused, Rahul, was reportedly employed at a petrol bunk. The mortal remains have been kept at the Bantwal government hospital for post-mortem.

The Punjalkatte police have registered a case and are investigating the matter. Meanwhile, local residents have alleged that the consumption of ganja by youths has become rampant in the vicinity, pointing to substance abuse as the root cause behind this tragic murder.
