Panaji, Jun 1: The Gomantak Mandir-Dharmik Sanstha Parishad has resolved to introduce a dress code across 39 temples in Goa as part of efforts to preserve the sanctity and decorum of temple premises.
The decision was taken during a meeting attended by representatives of temples and religious institutions affiliated with the Parishad.
Besides implementing a dress code, the Parishad has also demanded a ban on the sale of liquor within a 100-metre radius of temples. Members expressed concern over the presence of liquor outlets near places of worship and called for stricter regulations to maintain a religious atmosphere around temple premises.

The organisation further resolved to urge the Goa government to enact legislation prohibiting the use of names of Hindu deities for bars, pubs and establishments serving alcohol.
Representatives stated that the use of names associated with Hindu gods and goddesses for liquor-serving businesses hurts the sentiments of devotees and diminishes the reverence attached to religious figures.
Leaders of the Gomantak Mandir-Dharmik Sanstha Parishad said the resolutions were adopted with the objective of safeguarding religious traditions, encouraging respectful conduct within temple premises and protecting Goa's cultural and spiritual heritage.
The Parishad is expected to submit its recommendations to the state government and seek appropriate legislative and administrative action on the issues raised.
