Dubai, May 29: In a striking example of honesty, Dubai Police have honoured an Indian national after he returned Dh100,000 that he found unattended in a parking area, ensuring the money was safely restored to its rightful owner.

The incident occurred when Mohammed Ali Sherakal Mohi, an Indian expat in Dubai, discovered a large sum of cash in a parking lot. According to officials, he immediately documented the location and the bundle of money with a photograph before taking it to Al Raffa Police Station.

Mohi handed over the cash to police and assisted officers by pointing out the exact spot where it was found, enabling authorities to begin an investigation.

Dubai Police later identified the owner of the money, a businessman in the shipping sector. The individual reportedly had withdrawn Dh200,000 from a bank and placed it in an envelope, but due to improper handling, one bundle containing Dh100,000 fell out without his knowledge as he left the area.

Within hours of receiving the cash, police contacted the owner, who was shocked to learn that he had unknowingly lost a large portion of the withdrawn amount. He later visited the station and successfully recovered the missing money.

Officials said the swift resolution—completed in about three hours—highlighted both effective policing and the importance of public cooperation.

In recognition of his integrity, Mohi was formally honoured at Al Raffa Police Station. Colonel Ahmed Obaid bin Hudaiba, Director of the station, praised his action, noting that such behaviour reflects the strong values of honesty and community responsibility encouraged in the UAE.

Police officials emphasised that acts like these strengthen public trust and reinforce the image of safety and civic responsibility in the country.

Mohi was also felicitated by senior officers, including Colonel Saleh Hassan Al Marzouqi and Captain Ali Haji Al Balushi, and was photographed during the honouring ceremony as a gesture of appreciation for his honesty.
