Bantwal: Body of missing youth found in Netravati river

Bantwal, May 22: The body of a youth was found floating in the Netravati river at Panemangaluru on Thursday.

The deceased has been identified as Irfan (36), son of Mohammed, a resident of Goodinabali in B Mooda village.

The body was noticed by civic workers of Bantwal City Municipality while carrying out waste management work in the area. They immediately informed the Bantwal Town police.

Police personnel along with local residents from Goodinabali retrieved the body from the river. As the identity of the deceased could not initially be established, the body was kept in the mortuary freezer at Bantwal Government Hospital.

Later in the evening, the deceased was identified as Irfan, a resident of Goodinabali. It is learnt that he had been working in Saudi Arabia and had returned to his hometown around three years ago. After returning, he had purchased an auto-rickshaw and was earning his livelihood by driving it.

Irfan was married and is survived by his wife and three children. Family sources said that he had been missing for the past three days, and his body was found in the Netravati river on Thursday.

As injuries were found on the hands of the deceased, family members have expressed suspicion over the death. They have demanded a post-mortem examination and urged authorities to ensure justice in the case.
