Tamil producer K Rajan dies by suicide in Chennai

Chennai, May 17: Tamil film producer K Rajan allegedly died by suicide in Chennai on Sunday, police said.

According to initial reports, Rajan allegedly died after jumping from the Adyar bridge in the city. Police have registered a case and further investigation is underway. More details regarding the incident are awaited.

The news of his death has shocked the Tamil film industry. Rajan is survived by his son Prabhukanth.

K Rajan was known for his contributions to Tamil cinema as a producer, director, writer and actor. He began his career as a producer with the 1983 film Brammacharigal.

Over the years, he produced several films including Doubles, Aval Paavam and Ninaikoatha Naaliai.

Rajan made his directorial debut in 1991 with Namma Ooru Mariamma starring Nizhalgal Ravi and Sarathkumar. He later directed Unarchigal in 2005.

He also wrote stories for films such as Thangamana Thangachi and Unarchigal.

Apart from filmmaking, Rajan acted in several films including Michael Raj, Sonthakkaran, Veettoda Mappillai, Paambu Sattai, Thunivu starring Ajith Kumar and Bakasuran directed by Selvaraghavan.

K Rajan was also widely known for his outspoken views on issues related to the film industry.

His son Prabhukanth entered the industry as an actor before directing LKG starring RJ Balaji.
