New Delhi, May 7: The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Thursday firmly dismissed recent allegations made by the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS), which suggested India’s involvement in foreign interference activities in Canada, calling the claims “baseless imputations.”
Addressing the weekly media briefing, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal reiterated that India categorically rejects such assertions and maintains a consistent position on the matter.

He stated that India is a democratic nation committed to international norms and respects the sovereignty of all countries. He further emphasized that it is not India’s policy to interfere in the internal affairs of other nations, adding that concerns of this nature should be addressed through established diplomatic and institutional channels rather than through public commentary or politicised narratives.
The response came after a CSIS report alleged that multiple countries, including China, Russia, Iran, and Pakistan, are engaged in sophisticated foreign interference activities aimed at influencing democratic institutions, shaping public opinion, and weakening trust in democratic systems in Canada.
The report also referred to the continued presence of Canada-based Khalistani extremist elements, stating that their activities pose a security concern not only for Canada but also for other countries.
Reaffirming India’s position, Jaiswal highlighted that New Delhi has consistently raised concerns over the alleged misuse of Canadian territory by extremist and separatist groups. He said such groups are accused of exploiting democratic freedoms to promote extremist narratives, raise funds, and support violent activities.
India has repeatedly urged Canadian authorities to take strict and effective action against anti-India elements operating from their soil. This includes addressing issues such as the glorification of violence, threats against diplomats and public figures, vandalism of religious sites, and attempts to promote secessionist agendas through unofficial referendums, he added.
