Media Release
Bengaluru, May 2: Building on the momentum of previous editions—which saw high public demand leading to special re-screenings at two additional venues—the Gubbivani Trust’s Avala Hejje is preparing for its 2026 Short Film Festival. As the only platform dedicated exclusively to the professional female perspective in Kannada cinema, the festival successfully bridges local talent with creators from abroad, including the United States.
Avala Hejje is a cultural movement built on the belief that cinema is incomplete without the female gaze behind the lens. Continuing the tradition of the previous edition—where the "Avala Hejje" Award included a significant Rs 1 lac cash prize—the 2026 winners will be revealed at the festival finale in Bengaluru on May 24th.

As the festival enters its final phase, Avala Hejje invites passionate interns, volunteers, and strategic collaborators to join the coordination team. Interns will gain hands-on experience in specialized tracks such as media, logistics, and filmmaker liaison, working within a structured environment overseen by established leads.
International collaboration:
Avala Hejje invites Kannada associations and cultural organizations abroad to collaborate for potential screenings in their locations. This partnership provides a global stage for Kannada women filmmakers and strengthens ties with the diaspora. More details are on the Gubbivani Trust’s website: https://www.gubbivanitrust.ngo/
Deadlines:
• Internship applications: Must be completed by May 5, 2026.
• Volunteers & strategic collaborations: The call for general volunteers and organizational partnerships remains open to accommodate the festival’s final phase.
