Tehran, May 1: Iran’s political establishment appears to be facing fresh internal tensions, with reports suggesting that President Masoud Pezeshkian and Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf are considering the removal of Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.
According to a report by UK-based outlet Iran International, concerns have emerged within the leadership that Araghchi has been acting independently of the government’s official line and maintaining close coordination with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

Sources cited in the report claimed that Araghchi has, in recent weeks, operated more in alignment with IRGC commander Ahmad Vahidi than with the elected government. He is alleged to have taken key decisions, particularly on nuclear negotiations, without informing the president.
The reported “parallel decision-making” has raised unease within the executive, with indications that President Pezeshkian may consider dismissing Araghchi if the situation continues. However, there has been no official confirmation from Iranian authorities on the matter.
The developments point to a possible widening divide between the civilian leadership and the influential Revolutionary Guards, which have traditionally held significant sway in Iran’s strategic and security affairs.
Earlier reports had also highlighted growing friction between Pezeshkian and Vahidi, particularly over the handling of the ongoing conflict and its economic impact. Differences reportedly extended to control over key administrative appointments during the wartime situation.
While the situation remains fluid, the reports underline an emerging power struggle within Iran’s leadership at a time of heightened geopolitical and domestic challenges.
