Beltangady student dies after consuming poison; suicide case registered

Beltangady, May 1: A 19-year-old college student who had allegedly attempted suicide by consuming poison at her residence has succumbed during treatment at a hospital in Mangaluru.

The deceased has been identified as Rama (19), daughter of Dinesh Naik and Revathi, residents of Mayada Balamandikallu in Belalu village of Belthangady taluk. According to reports, she had consumed poison at her house on the night of April 19 in an alleged suicide attempt.

She was immediately shifted to a hospital in Mangaluru, where she was undergoing treatment. However, she breathed her last on April 29 without responding to treatment.

Rama was a second-year degree student at a college in Vamadapadavu. It is learnt that she was in a relationship with a young man and the incident is suspected to be linked to personal issues.

A case of unnatural death has been registered at Dharmasthala police station on April 30, and further investigation is underway.
