Milagres College blood donation drive collects 168 units, inspires spirit of service

Mangaluru, Apr 30: A blood donation camp was successfully organized on April 28, 2026 at the Milagres College Auditorium by the Youth Red Cross, Red Ribbon Club, and National Service Scheme units of Milagres College, in collaboration with the Lions Club Milagres Mangalore and Blood Donors Mangalore. The camp received an overwhelming response from students, staff, and the general public, resulting in the collection of 168 units of blood, which will greatly support local healthcare needs.

The programme was inaugurated by Rev Dr. Alwin Serrao, principal and campus director, who, in his presidential address, emphasized the importance of cultivating a spirit of service among students and highlighted how a single act of donation can save multiple lives. Chief guest Lion J. K. Rao, past district governor, and guest of honour Dr. Deepa Adiga, director of KMC Blood Center, addressed the gathering, stressing the continuous need for a safe blood supply and encouraging young donors to actively participate in such noble initiatives. All the dignitaries delivered meaningful messages, motivating the youth to take up social responsibility beyond academics.

Joel Mascarenhas, NSS programme officer, and Siddique Manjeshwar, founder-president of Blood Donors Mangalore, were present on the dais. The camp was efficiently managed with the support of the medical staff from KMC Hospital Blood Center.

The formal programme commenced with a welcome address by Lion Philip J. Pereira, who acknowledged the presence of dignitaries and participants. The event concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks proposed by Shaila Moras. The programme was compered by Anush of III BSc FND.

The initiative reflected the strong commitment of the institution towards community service and humanitarian values, reinforcing the message: “Donate Blood, Save Life.”
