Srinagar, Apr 19: Police in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district have intensified their campaign against drug trafficking, resulting in the arrest of six alleged peddlers and the seizure of more than 3.7 kilograms of narcotics along with Rs 10,450 in cash.
According to an official statement, the Anantnag Police carried out three separate operations as part of their ongoing efforts to curb the drug menace.
In the first operation, officers conducting routine checks at Danter noticed four individuals heading toward Anantnag town who tried to escape upon spotting the police. The suspects were swiftly apprehended. A subsequent search led to the recovery of approximately 3.178 kg of a ganja-like substance and Rs 10,450 in cash. Three of the accused were identified, while one individual managed to flee. A case has been registered and further investigation is in progress.

In a separate incident at Marhama Crossing, a police team intercepted a vehicle during checking. Two occupants were detained, and a search of the vehicle uncovered small quantities of substances resembling brown sugar and charas. A case under relevant provisions of the NDPS Act has been registered.
The third operation took place at Doodhnad Waghama, where another individual was apprehended during a checkpoint inspection. Police recovered 468 grams of a charas-like substance from his possession, leading to the registration of a separate case.
Reaffirming their strict stance, Anantnag Police emphasized a zero-tolerance approach toward drug-related activities. Authorities stated that firm action against those involved in drug trafficking will continue to protect the community, especially the youth. They also urged the public to assist by sharing information about illegal drug activities, assuring that informants’ identities will remain confidential.
