Iran showcases rapid rebuild of rail lines amid US-Israel strikes

Tehran, Apr 15: Amid its ongoing conflict with the United States and Israel, Iran has claimed a swift restoration of critical infrastructure, particularly railway lines and bridges damaged during recent air and missile strikes.

The escalation had seen both Donald Trump and Benjamin Netanyahu warning of targeting Iran’s transport and communication networks, including bridges and power facilities. However, Iranian authorities now assert that reconstruction efforts have been carried out at remarkable speed.

Since a fragile ceasefire came into effect on April 8, Iranian officials have reported that several damaged rail routes and bridges have been restored within 40 to 96 hours, largely using domestic engineering teams. These efforts have been widely publicised by Iranian diplomatic missions on social media platform X.

According to reports, train services have resumed on key routes. In the northwestern Azerbaijan region, rail connectivity from Tabriz to Tehran and Mashhad has been restored after a brief disruption of four to five days. Officials also confirmed the resumption of the Tehran–Tabriz–Van international route to Turkey using rebuilt tracks.

In central Iran, a major railway bridge near Qom was reopened in less than 40 hours after reconstruction. Similarly, the Yahya Abad bridge in Kashan was brought back into operation within days, with visuals showing trains crossing the restored structure soon after repairs.

Authorities in Tehran have also undertaken rapid debris clearance in affected areas. Government spokesperson Fatemeh Mohajerani stated that while immediate restoration is underway, full reconstruction of damaged buildings—over 125,000 structures including homes, schools, and hospitals—could take between three months and two years.

Iranian embassies have amplified these developments online, highlighting what they describe as self-reliance and efficiency. Posts shared by diplomatic accounts showcased videos of bridge reconstruction and restoration of railway operations, asserting that multiple damaged sites had been brought back into service within days.

The conflict saw key infrastructure targeted as part of strategic efforts to disrupt logistics. Israeli forces reportedly struck several railway bridges and road links across cities including Tehran, Karaj, Tabriz, Kashan, and Qom, citing their use in transporting military equipment.

Despite the scale of the damage, Iranian authorities claim that most affected railway sites were restored within 100 hours, underscoring the resilience of the country’s infrastructure network.

With uncertainty still surrounding the ceasefire and prospects of renewed hostilities, analysts note that Iran’s ability to rapidly rebuild critical infrastructure such as railways and bridges could play a crucial role in sustaining operations in any future escalation.
