India bags 16 medals at Asian Boxing Championships, wins 5 gold

Ulaanbaatar, Apr 10: India wrapped up its campaign at the Asian Boxing Championships 2026 in Ulaanbaatar with an impressive tally of 16 medals, including five gold, three silver and eight bronze.

In the men’s 50kg category, Vishvanath Suresh clinched gold with a dominant 5-0 win over Japan’s Daichi Iwai, marking India’s first Asian title in men’s boxing in five years. Meanwhile, Sachin Siwach secured silver after a narrow 2-3 loss to Kazakhstan’s Orazbek Assylkulov in the 60kg final.

The women’s team delivered a standout performance, winning 10 medals, including four gold, two silver and four bronze. India finished second overall, just behind Kazakhstan, which topped the medal tally with six gold medals, though India recorded the highest total medal count in the tournament.
