Bishkek, Apr 6: Indian wrestlers will kick off their campaign at the Asian Wrestling Championships 2026 in Bishkek on Monday, with Olympic medallist Aman Sehrawat leading the 30-member squad.
India heads into the tournament with a blend of experienced and young talent, aiming to better last year’s tally of 10 medals. Aman, competing in the 61kg category, is among the country’s top medal prospects.
Other key contenders include Ankush in the 57kg category and U23 world champion Sujeet Kalkal in the 65kg division. Sunil Kumar will spearhead the Greco-Roman team in the 87kg category.

In the women’s section, the squad is undergoing transition, with Meenakshi Goyat replacing Antim Panghal, while Manisha Bhanwala has moved to the 57kg category.
India is expected to face stiff competition from strong wrestling nations such as Iran and Japan, along with Central Asian teams.
The championship will conclude on April 12.
