Bantwal, Apr 1: A 48-year-old woman sustained critical injuries after being hit by a speeding car while attempting to cross the road at Dasaragudde in Sajipamunnur village. The force of the impact was so severe that the victim was reportedly flung nearly 10 feet into the air before crashing onto the road.

The victim has been identified as Bharati (48), a resident of Boliyar village in Ullal taluk. The horrifying incident was captured on a nearby CCTV camera and the footage has since gone viral on social media.

According to sources, Bharati, accompanied by her daughter Deepashree, had visited Sajipamoodu to offer prayers at the Guligajje Katte. The accident occurred on the Melkar-Mudipu state highway while she was trying to cross the road. A car travelling from Melkar towards Mudipu rammed into her at high speed.

Bharati, who suffered serious injuries in the mishap, was immediately rushed to a private hospital in Mangaluru, where she is currently undergoing treatment.

The Bantwal traffic police have registered a case and initiated an investigation. Preliminary reports suggest that overspeeding by the car driver may have caused the accident; however, officials are yet to confirm the exact details.

Local residents have expressed outrage over the incident, citing a lack of pedestrian safety measures on the highway. Attributing the frequent accidents in the area to traffic violations and high speeds, they have urged the authorities to take immediate action and install speed breakers to prevent further tragedies.

Mother and daughter were together while crossing the road. It should have been daughters duty to gide her elderly mother not to rush unless the length of the road was clear of any incoming vehiclular flow. Its a road meant for movement of vehicles in both the directions and pedestrians need to exercise great sense caution whilst crossing. It's a miraculous escape from major calamity. Let's hope for a speedy recovery of the victim.
