Mangaluru, Mar 24: The district lead bank office of Canara Bank reported that the total banking business in Dakshina Kannada district stood at Rs 1,36,700 crore as on December 31, 2025, registering a year-on-year growth of 8.50%. The total number of bank branches in the district stood at 609.
Deposits in the district stood at Rs 82,070.67 crore, showing a growth of 11.52%, while advances stood at Rs 50,099.21 crore, registering a growth of 4.43%. The Credit-Deposit (CD) ratio stood at 69.09%, which decreased from 73.78% recorded during the corresponding period of the previous year.



The total disbursement under priority and non-priority sectors in the district as on December 2025 was Rs 36,475.56 crore, achieving 75.39% of the target of Rs 48,380.24 crore. Disbursement under the agriculture sector reached Rs 10,346.21 crore, achieving 103.43% of the target, while disbursement under the MSME sector stood at Rs 6,806.78 crore, achieving 115.41% of the target.
Education loans amounted to Rs 157.09 crore, achieving 95.65% of the target, while housing loans stood at Rs 285.11 crore, achieving 56.64% of the target. The total priority sector disbursement stood at Rs 18,898.49 crore against the target of Rs 17,378.11 crore, achieving 108.74%.
Under various government social security schemes, banks in the district disbursed Rs 644.29 crore to Rs 65,141 loan accounts under the MUDRA scheme between April 1, 2025 and December 31, 2025.
During the same period, 29,010 savings bank accounts were opened under PM Jan Dhan Yojana, 41,657 accounts were enrolled under PM Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana and 88,780 accounts under Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana. A total of 25,435 accounts were opened under Atal Pension Yojana. Under PM SVANidhi scheme, 13,234 sanctions were made in the first tranche, 6,352 in the second tranche and 2,181 in the third tranche in the district.
Meanwhile, the Potential Linked Credit Plan (PLP) for the year 2026-27 prepared by the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development for Dakshina Kannada district was launched by IAS officer Narwade Vinayak Karbhari, chief executive officer of Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat, at Netravati Hall in Mangaluru on March 24. Sangeetha S Kartha, assistant general manager and district development manager of NABARD, presented the credit potential available for bank finance under various priority sector activities in the district.
The total exploitable credit potential for the priority sector in Dakshina Kannada for the year 2026-27 has been estimated at Rs 25,222.47 crore, which is 8.85% higher than the annual credit plan of 2025-26. Special emphasis has been laid on agriculture, including Kisan Credit Cards for animal husbandry and fisheries, agriculture infrastructure, food processing, education, housing; renewable energy and social infrastructure involving bank credit.
