Kasargod: Two arrested for illegal spirit transport; 1,200 litres seized

Kasargod, Mar 23: Nileshwar police arrested two persons and seized approximately 1,200 litres of illegally transported spirit from a car in the early hours of Monday, March 23.

The arrested have been identified as Girish (39), a resident of Kunjathur, Manjeshwar, and A H Ansif (40) from Thrissur.

The operation was conducted around 1 am near Market Junction in Nileshwar. A police team led by Nileshwar sub-inspector G Vishnu intercepted the vehicle during a routine inspection and took the accused into custody along with the contraband.

Cans found in convoy

The spirit was found stored in 34 cans inside the vehicle. According to police sources, the spirit was being transported in a convoy of three cars. While the police managed to intercept one vehicle, the other two cars sped away from the spot upon spotting the personnel.

The police have launched an investigation to trace the escaped vehicles and the individuals involved in the racket. A case has been registered at the Nileshwar police station.
