Mangaluru, Feb 27: Shallet Pinto, chairperson of the Karnataka Eco-Tourism Development Board, Bengaluru, stated that the proactive measures taken by labour minister Santosh Lad demonstrate a deep concern for workers' welfare, leading to the successful implementation of high-impact community programmes.
She was speaking at a distribution ceremony of motorised tri-wheelers for specially-abled persons from Dakshina Kannada district, sponsored by various employers. The event was held at the Sri Benaka Auditorium of the Sri Ganeshotsava Committee in Padavinangady. The programme was organised by the district administration and zilla panchayat in association with the labour department, the department of factories, boilers, industrial safety and health, the department for empowerment of differently-abled and senior citizens, and the transport department.





"Everyone in society has an equal right to live with dignity. We are all equals, and it is with this spirit that such supportive programmes are being organised," Pinto added.
A total of 90 specially-abled individuals were provided with motorised tri-wheelers through the corporate social responsibility (CSR) support of MRPL, MCF, BASF, Yenepoya University, Mandovi Motors Pvt Ltd, Arvind Motors Pvt Ltd, Rohan Corporation Ltd, CAMPCO Ltd, and Invenjar Technology Pvt Ltd.
Dakshina Kannada deputy commissioner Darshan HV was present as the chief guest. Other dignitaries included TM Shahid Tekkil, chairman of the Karnataka State Minimum Wages Advisory Board; Mamata Gatti, chairperson of the Karnataka Cashew Development Corporation; Joachim Stanley Alvares, president of the Konkani Sahitya Academy; Sadashiva Ullal, chairman of MUDA; Prashanth Baliga, CGM of MRPL; and Keshava Patali of the CSR department.
Labour officer Kumar BR welcomed the gathering and compered the programme. Labour officer Wilma Elizabeth Tauro delivered the vote of thanks.
