Udupi: Public sector bank manager booked over alleged misconduct with woman customer

Udupi, Feb 25: A case has been registered against the branch manager of a public sector bank’s Adi Udupi branch following allegations of misconduct made by a woman customer.

The complaint was lodged at the Udupi Women police station by a woman identified as Jyothi. Based on her complaint, police registered a case under Crime No. 12/2026 dated February 19, 2026, under Section 74 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.

An investigation has been initiated into the matter.

According to the complainant’s statement, the alleged incident occurred on February 7, 2026, at around 5.30 pm. The manager is accused of calling her on the pretext of discussing a loan-related matter and allegedly behaving inappropriately inside a car bearing registration number HR-59 E-8192.

The complainant stated that the incident caused her serious mental distress and affected her dignity.

The woman, who is said to come from a modest family background, had reportedly approached the bank for official services when the alleged incident took place. The allegations against a senior official of a public sector bank have raised concerns regarding the safety and dignity of women customers.

The complainant has sought justice and requested protection, expressing faith in the legal system. She has also appealed for safeguards against any form of pressure, intimidation or attempts to defame her.
