Kasargod: 24-yr-old biker killed in early morning collision with pickup vehicle on NH, friend hurt

Kasargod, Feb 18: A 24-year-old motorcyclist was killed and his friend seriously injured in an early-morning collision with a pickup vehicle on the National Highway near Bandyodu, close to Kasargod, on Wednesday.

The deceased has been identified as Niranjan K (24), a resident of Anekallu in Padnadka, Sullia. His friend, Krithik Benny (23), from Shaktinagar in Mangaluru, sustained grievous injuries and has been admitted to a hospital in Mangaluru.

According to preliminary information, the duo were part of a group of five bikers returning to Mangaluru after a trip to Kerala.

The mishap occurred on the service road near Bandyodu when two motorcycles reportedly rammed into a pickup vehicle transporting poultry. “The impact was severe, leaving both riders critically injured,” sources said.

The injured were initially rushed to a nearby hospital in Bandyodu and later shifted to Mangaluru as their condition deteriorated. Despite sustained medical efforts, Niranjan succumbed to his injuries.

Kumble police have registered a case and are investigating the circumstances leading to the fatal collision.
