Kundapur, Feb 8: A Mahindra pickup vehicle moving along National Highway 66 met with an accident after the driver lost control and crashed into an electric pole near Kannukere here in the early hours of Sunday.

The incident occurred around 5.30 am in front of the Happy Cars showroom at Kannukere. The pickup, which was travelling from Udupi towards Kundapur, reportedly veered off course and rammed into electric poles located on either side of the highway.

Due to the impact, the electric poles were severely damaged and electric cables snapped, falling across NH-66. This led to a power disruption in the surrounding areas and brought vehicular movement on the busy highway to a complete halt for nearly an hour.

On receiving information, personnel from the Kota police station rushed to the spot along with members of the Kannukere locality and MESCOM staff. The fallen electric cables were promptly cleared and necessary repairs were carried out, allowing traffic to resume smoothly.

The driver of the Mahindra pickup sustained minor injuries and escaped without any threat to life. Locals said a major tragedy was averted due to timely intervention and the presence of mind shown by those at the scene.

Members of the Kannukere Falcon Club, including Adil, Nayeem and Suhail, along with MESCOM staff, Kota police personnel and local residents, actively assisted in managing the situation and restoring normalcy.
