Mumbai, Feb 8: Nearly twenty years after it first stirred the nation, Rang De Basanti continues to hold its cinematic power. Actor Kunal Kapoor, who played Aslam in the cult classic, recently reflected on the film’s enduring impact, saying it remains “absolutely worth a theatre seat” even today.

Kapoor reunited with the film’s core team to celebrate the 20-year milestone at a special screening in Mumbai. The gathering brought together Aamir Khan, Siddharth, Sharman Joshi, Soha Ali Khan, Atul Kulkarni, producer Ronnie Screwvala, Siddharth Roy Kapur, and Ajit Andhare—turning the evening into a heartfelt walk down memory lane.

Sharing moments from the reunion on social media, Kapoor posted stills from the film alongside candid snapshots from the celebration. “When the past and present meet again. Twenty years later, and it still deserves the big screen,” he wrote, expressing gratitude for being part of what he called a truly special journey. Actor Hrithik Roshan joined the nostalgia, commenting, “Amazing!!” on the post.

Soha Ali Khan, who portrayed Sonia in Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s acclaimed drama, also marked the occasion online. She offered fans a glimpse into the reunion with behind-the-scenes photos and a video of the cast cutting a celebratory cake. One post featured a then-and-now comparison of the principal cast. “Twenty years later—we showed up. Some were missed, but the spirit was still on fire,” she wrote, adding patriotic flair with hashtags celebrating the film’s legacy.

Released in 2006, Rang De Basanti was widely lauded for its bold storytelling and emotional depth. The film won the National Award for Best Popular Film and earned international recognition with a BAFTA nomination for Best Foreign Language Film in 2007. It also represented India as the official entry to both the Golden Globe Awards and the Academy Awards in the same category—cementing its place as a modern classic that continues to resonate across generations.
