Bengaluru, Feb 7: In a bizarre incident, a man who allegedly attempted burglary has himself lodged a police complaint, accusing a couple of assaulting him, in an incident reported from the Sampigehalli police station limits.

According to police, the house owners had initially filed a complaint stating that unknown persons attempted to break into their house and assaulted them when confronted. In a counter move, the accused claimed that he was assaulted by the residents while attempting theft and approached the police with a complaint of his own.

Based on the two complaints related to the same incident, police registered two separate cases and arrested Asgar Khan, Razak, and Shyam in connection with the attempted theft and assault.

Police said Asgar Khan, an autorickshaw driver, decided to attempt burglary after seeing his friends engaging in similar acts. Along with two friends, he allegedly planned a theft at an apartment in Chikkanahalli. The trio reportedly jumped the apartment compound wall late at night.

During the attempted theft, the residents woke up and tried to stop them. In the ensuing scuffle, Asgar allegedly assaulted the couple. As the commotion intensified, neighbouring residents gathered at the spot. Sensing trouble, Asgar’s associates fled the scene in his autorickshaw, leaving him behind.

Members of the public allegedly assaulted Asgar before alerting the police through the emergency helpline. He was later handed over to the police.

Meanwhile, the injured couple received treatment and lodged a complaint on Sunday morning regarding the attempted theft and the assault on them.

Asgar also filed a complaint, alleging that he was brutally assaulted by unknown persons. He further urged police to take action against his two friends, claiming they had lured him into committing the crime.

During interrogation, Asgar reportedly provided details about his associates, based on which police arrested the other two accused.

Police stated that an FIR has been registered against Asgar based on the couple’s complaint, while a separate FIR has been registered against his two associates based on his statement. The couple, however, told police that they had no information about who assaulted the accused.
