Udupi, Jan 28: Kasturba Medical College (KMC), Manipal, under the Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), a deemed-to-be university, has been included by the Singapore government in its list of the world’s top medical colleges. MAHE stated in a release that the Singapore ministry of health has informed that this recognition will come into effect from February 1.

With this, KMC has secured a place among 120 world-renowned medical colleges from Australia, Ireland, Malaysia, China, the United Kingdom and the United States of America. The Singapore Medical Council regularly reviews its list of registered medical qualifications to ensure that foreign-trained doctors applying to practise medicine in Singapore have received education and training of appropriate quality and excellence comparable to Singapore standards.

Reacting to the recognition, MAHE pro-chancellor Dr H S Ballal said that receiving recognition from the Singapore government is a matter of pride for KMC Manipal. He said this significant achievement honours the visionary legacy of the institution’s founder Dr T M A Pai, whose ideals continue to guide the institution even today.

Vice-chancellor Lt Gen Dr M D Venkatesh and pro vice-chancellor Dr Sharath Rao stated that this recognition is a proud moment for KMC Manipal and the country. They noted that KMC being the only medical college from India among the newly recognised institutions reflects its strong commitment to excellence in medical education.
