Dubai, Jan 25: Jan Kalaamruth is set to present Sur-Rangani on February 7 at the Emirates Theatre, Dubai. The programme will feature an evening of Konkani music and theatre, celebrating the vibrancy, richness and cultural legacy of the Konkani language.
The event will begin with a Konkani musical concert featuring noted singers and musicians from the Konkani cultural fraternity. The concert will present a mix of soulful melodies, traditional tunes and contemporary Konkani compositions.






Noted musician Denzil Pereira of the Blue Angels Choir will lead the orchestra. This will be his first overseas performance.
Renowned singer Jason Lobo from Mangaluru will headline the concert. A classically trained vocalist, he has studied Carnatic music and is currently undergoing Hindustani classical training under Ustad Rafique Khan.
Singer Bindu Cutinha will perform as the lead female vocalist. This will also be her first overseas performance. She has earlier performed at events such as Melwyn Peris Nite, Mike Simon Nite and Wilfy Nite, and has been the primary vocalist for more than five album tracks, besides lending her voice to several covers.
Local singers Vinay Lewis, Jeevan Vas, Priyanka D’Souza and Leora D’Souza will perform as backing vocalists.
The concert will feature musicians Arun Carlo, Shameer Habib, Ujwel Solomon, Deepak Machado, Sanal George, Terrel Milton and Deona Correa, under the musical direction of Denzil Pereira.
Following the concert, a Konkani drama titled CHAFRA’S Hando Utla will be staged. The play addresses socially relevant themes while highlighting the richness of Konkani literature, humour and storytelling.
CHAFRA, a noted figure in Konkani theatre, is known for his impactful one-act plays. Hando Utla combines humour with a strong social message.
The drama is presented by Dony Correa, with cast members Godwin Castelino, Cynthia Mendonca, Rohan Lobo, Asha Correa, Deona Correa and Delisha Correa. Backstage and technical arrangements will be handled by Ashok D’Almeida and Melwin Kalakul. Music for the play has been composed by Rohan Lobo Kalakul, while lighting has been designed by Melwin Kalakul.
The play was earlier staged in London during Konkani Sambram-4 and received a positive response from audiences.
Sur-Rangani is expected to draw Konkani art lovers in Dubai, offering an evening of music, theatre and cultural celebration.
