Bhubaneswar, Jan 18: Even a year after the declaration of the UPSC Civil Services Examination 2024 results, the success story of Ritika Rath from Odisha continues to resonate with civil services aspirants across the country.
Ritika secured the 48th rank in the UPSC Civil Services Examination 2024 in her third attempt, marking a significant milestone in her journey from management education at a premier institute to one of the country’s most competitive examinations.

Hailing from Bhubaneswar, Ritika is an alumnus of IIM Indore, where she completed her graduation in management. After completing her studies, she briefly took up a professional role but later quit her job to pursue her long-cherished ambition of entering public service.
Ritika grew up in Bhubaneswar and completed her Class 11 and 12 education in Delhi. Her father, Shishir Rathod, a retired Indian Forest Service officer, played a key role in shaping her interest in governance and public administration.
According to Ritika, her prior work experience helped her develop confidence and clarity during preparation, while her optional subject, philosophy, proved to be a major strength. In her final attempt, she followed a disciplined study routine, waking up early each day and prioritising core subjects. She consciously stayed away from social media, choosing focused preparation and meaningful personal interactions instead.
During the interview stage, questions largely revolved around her work experience and optional subject, which she handled with confidence.
Ritika has stated that her aim is to become an approachable civil servant and contribute to ensuring that government welfare schemes effectively reach people at the grassroots level. Her journey continues to serve as motivation for aspirants, particularly those persevering through multiple attempts.
